Supervision is a personal reflection on the kind of love that watches closely.. sometimes too closely. The mushroom at the center of the piece represents me: strange, soft, open. The eyes embedded in its cap belong to my family, whose care has always come with vigilance. Their watchfulness is born from love, but it’s also shaped by fear. They look out for danger before it arrives, constantly scanning the horizon on my behalf.
The surreal, dreamlike quality of the eyes on the mushroom blurs the boundary between concern and control. It’s not a hostile presence.. it’s protective, even tender, but it’s also heavy. Always being watched, even with good intentions, can feel like being held in place.
And yet, my heart is still open. The heart-shaped window, shutters wide, shows that I’m waiting. Longing, even. I want someone to come in, not just to be protected, but to be known. The mushroom sits alone in an open field, where anyone could find it, enter, and be welcomed. That openness is intentional. It’s about trust, hope, and the quiet courage it takes to stay open when you’ve always been shielded.
Supervision is about the complicated beauty of being loved fiercely and the quiet ache of wanting to be seen beyond fear. It’s about growing under watchful eyes, and still choosing to open your heart.
